Historical Truxtun Civic League

The Old Truxtun Community League was formed in 1978

Lucy M. Overton,President, Joseph A. Brown Sr. Vice President,William Elliott Treasure,Rachel Smith Harris Secretary, Jeffries Long ,Chaplin. other members included Charles Laury,Sara Green, Clara Elliott, Corine H. Wright, Deloris M. Overton,Inez Brown, Claude T. Beverly,James Reavis, Sonny Richardson, Margaret watson,Corean Jones,Lorraine Riddick and Samuel Warren.

In just two short years after forming the community league the hard work paid off with Truxtun being designation as Portsmouth's fourth historic

district. 

Hundreds attended  ceremony at the Old Truxtun School location

THE MAYOR, COMMUNITY LEADERS, CITY AND STATE OFFICIALS,LONG TIME TRUXTUN RESIDENTS, AND THE I.C. NORCOM  GREYHOUND BAND  TOOK PART IN THE CEREMONY.
